Has Aaron been raised by another?

Richard Malkin’s warning to Claire is well known to LOST fans, although it is often misquoted.

According to LOSTpedia, the dialogue goes as follows…

MALKIN: It is crucial that you yourself raise this child.

CLAIRE: You mean with Thomas? Is he..

MALKIN: The father of this child will play no part in it’s life, nor yours.

CLAIRE: So what exactly are you saying?

MALKIN: This child parented by anyone else, anyone other than you — danger surrounds this baby. . .

CLAIRE: Danger?

MALKIN: Your nature, your spirit, your goodness, must be an influence in the development of this child.

CLAIRE: Look, if Thomas and I don’t get back together I’m putting this baby up for adoption. I just wanted to find out what would give the baby the happiest life.

MALKIN: There is no happy life — not for this child, not without you.

CLAIRE: I don’t. . .

MALKIN: It can’t be another. You mustn’t allow another to raise your baby.

So, people often pick apart that last line… does it mean that only Claire can parent Aaron or is “another” really “an other” and it’s a foretelling of the danger the Others pose to Claire, her friends, and of course the baby.

The balance of the dialogue suggests Malkin is referring to parenting the child, but it would not be above the writers of LOST to  misdirect us a bit – placing information within information.

But I wonder if the double entendre lies in the concept of “raising” Aaron as opposed to who does it.

We’ve seen Locke seemingly “raised” from the dead. Reincarnated? Apparently not, but perhaps his spirit… his consciousness… his essence has been taken and restored within the Fake-Locke-Dark-Shirted-Man vessel.

Remember when, on island, Claire said she hadn’t felt the baby kick since the crash. It finally responded to Jin’s urchin sushi. Perhaps that’s not the real Aaron. Perhaps, the baby Claire gave birth to was actually a “raised” version of the unborn child who died in the crash.

I don’t really think that’s the case. I’m more in agreement with the very literal interpretation of Malkin’s warning: don’t let someone else parent the child.

And, for the record… I do realize that for how along Claire was in the pregnancy, (I don’t want to be graphic)… let’s just say that if Fake-Locke is a duplicate body and we have seen Locke’s original body, um… well, a scientifically accurate birth would not have allowed the existence of two Aarons to go unnoticed by  Jack.

I was just wondering aloud.
