If not LOST, then what?

Posted in Fringe, General Info, Observations, ReThinking LOST with tags , , on December 21, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Once I have a few minutes of free time, this site will change slightly to become the “Things Scott Copperman wonders about LOST and other TV shows” site.

With LOST off the air and no post “new man in charge” content to wonder about, I’m going to diversify the focus of this site so that it can remain active and become much more so.

What shows will I wonder about? Well, FRINGE is one leading candidate. It’s my favorite show on TV right now. Beyond that, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of Fringe, I went through the whole Olivia in the alternate universe first half of the season expecting to see John Scott. How could John Scott not make some sort of appearance. He’s the reason our Olivia is with the Fringe Team, isn’t he?

Well, I hadn’t realized Mark Valley and Anna Torv were linked romantically off-air. And in early 2010, they divorced after a short marriage.

I’d like to think that he’d still come back to reprise his role, but I can’t say I really blame him or Anna if either would prefer not. I’m pretty sure I’d have a hard time in a similar situation.

Well, that’s what I’ve been wondering. More to come. Stay tuned, and watch for new episodes of ReThinking LOST to be released in early 2011 as well.

ReThinking LOST is still in production …

Posted in ReThinking LOST on August 9, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Things have kind of slowed down (summer busy-ness, post-finale blahs, and the lack of new content to rethink being majore reasons why).

But the show goes on. Look for it to be released every 3-4 weeks for the time being.

After a month’s absence, ReThinking LOST is back

Posted in General Info, ReThinking LOST with tags , , , on July 6, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Episode 43 of the ReThinking LOST podcast is now available.

There were multiple reasons for the delay – none less important than the fact that Elton and I had overfilled our ReThinking LOST file storage space on podbean and short of shelling out $100, we had to wait a few weeks for new space to become available.

Please enjoy this “old school” style look at some spoilers that the Dark UFO site decided NOT to share and be sure to keep looking for us to rethink LOST.

ReThinking the LOST finale

Posted in General Info, ReThinking LOST with tags , , , on May 28, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Unfortunately, there’s been some sort of Mix-Up at podbean and we won’t be able to upload Part 1 of our finale analysis until Tuesday of next week.

I KNOW!

Sorry about that. I hope it’s still relevant and worth your time.

Watch for it.

Is Jacob’s brother dead?

Posted in ReThinking LOST, Some wonderings I don't really believe, Theories, Videos with tags , , on May 13, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Wow, what a tough question. My gut instinct is “yes.” We see MIB’s body, he’s supposedly “Adam” in the cave, and it would make sense to say/think that the MIB we’ve seen since the moment above was a new entity (Smokey) taking the form of Jacob’s brother the way he took Locke’s form.

However…. however… there are multiple reasons I’d have to say “no.” Among them, the way MIB describes himself… as someone who was human once, who had is humanity taken away by Jacob…. and the way “Mother” described the fate of those who into the cave as being worse than death.

So, at this moment, before we record this week’s ReThinking LOST, I’m thinking that the Smokey monster is an altered form of MIB. His soul? Mabye. His evil parts? I don’t think so. I think the “evil” people think they see is anger and frustration. But, I think that the smoke monster is the MIB changed (because he was special, because he was blessed by Mother or maybe cursed), and that it really is him. No longer human (so maybe you could say he’s dead), but still that same identity.

When LOST is over

Posted in General Info, ReThinking LOST, Some wonderings I don't really believe on April 30, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Which actor on LOST do you think will be the first to appear on one of those celebrity reality shows?

Watch for this to be a topic on a coming episode of ReThinking LOST.

Many thanks to Virginia Heffernan of the NY Times for recommending the ReThinking LOST podcast in her April 19 article, “‘LOST’ in Translation.”

We’ve very proud and appreciative of this honor.

The Lesson Learned is Never Give Up on Your Theories

Posted in ReThinking LOST, Theories with tags , , , , , , , , on April 6, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Wow, we may have actually gotten something right!

**Be warned, this entry makes reference to the episode of LOST which aired Tues, April 6 in the USA **

Spoilers for that April 6 episode follow…

If you’re a fan of our ReThinking LOST podcast, and you listened to our preseason 6 prediction show, (I think that’s where it was) then you heard Elton and I discuss the possibility that our Losties might be living in an Alternate Reality post-incident and that it might unravel as one by one they found themselves with the sneaking suspicioin it just didn’t feel right.

Well, that’s starting to look like that might be the case with the Flash Sideways.

(admittedly, I did bail on this theory about 4 episodes ago, but I will happily point out that we did think this was the route it might go back before the season started)

I will also posit that the Flash Sideways are the result of the incident AND consequently the MIB getting set free. I find it interesting that when Desmond touched Penny’s hand, he snapped back to the island. And when he followed Sayid, the was back in the Flash Sideways.

So, when Widmore says all that Desmond and Jin love will be gone, it’s because the Flash Sideways life will result. The MIB is indeed planning to fulfill his promises, by bringing about the Flash Sideways timeline.

Good stuff… my question is “why does Hawking say that Desmond isn’t ready to look for Penny yet?”

A Contest!

Posted in General Info, ReThinking LOST with tags , , , , , , on March 26, 2010 by Scott Copperman

If you listened to episode 32 of ReThinking LOST or any episode since, then you know we’re having a contest where you, yes YOU, can win a t-shirt from the ABC store.

This is the deal(-ee-oh)…

  • you create an audio file (.mp3 or .wav) promoting ReThinking LOST for us to air on our other podcast, An Apotheosis of a Bombast, and possibly other places. It can be up to 30 seconds long.
  • you send it to us at rethinkinglost at gmail dot com
  • we pick our favorite(s) and buy them a LOST t-shirt

Thats it. Simple, eh? All submissions must be received by April 20. We’ll air some of the best, if not all, and choose a winner shortly thereafter.

So, get on it… you’re a creative group. Show us what you’re capable of.

Lost in 8:15 – Where’s Alex?

Posted in Observations, ReThinking LOST, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 21, 2010 by Scott Copperman

Back on January 12th we recorded what will likely become Episode 23 of ReThinking LOST. The episode is finally going to be released for another week or so, and I don’t want to spoil it, so…  I’m not going to go into all the things we talked about.

However, I will tell you this. Elton McManus, Ross Cleaver, and I spent an hour looking at the original LOST in 8:15 video and the more recent release which covers seasons 1 – 5 instead of only 1-3. The differences were intriguing and if this truly is “what you need to know” going into Season 6, then it suggests many things that people have spent a lot of time analyzing are not important at all.

Case in point (and I’m fairly sure this did not even make it into our discussion)… Alex (Rousseau’s daughter, raised by Ben) does not appear anywhere in either video. Her exclusion from the most recent video suggests that Ben’s issues with Widmore may not play a major role in Season 6.

Can’t you just picture how easy it would have been to have that fast talking woman say “Widmore sent Kimi. Kimi killed Alex. Ben cried. Ben found Widmore and made a promise. “BEN: I’m here, Charles, to tell you that I’m going to kill your daughter. Penelope, is it? And once she’s gone… once she’s dead… then you’ll understand how I feel. And you’ll wish you hadn’t changed the rules.” Ben finds Penny. (shot of young Charlie calling for Mommy). Ben can’t do it.”

Look at this study of the confrontation scene from Vozzek’s web site. Hmm… “the shape of things to come?” Apparently not.

If it turns out that this conflict is over and done with , I think that tells us two things…

  1. Pennys’ lineage as a Widmore, Danielle and Alex, and Ben’s role as a father are not going to be key parts of Season 6.
  2. Widmore is not THE bad guy. He may be a pawn of, but just as I theorize Ben is a good guy with bad people skills… the same may be true of Widmore. But he is NOT the antagonist in our main story of LOST.

We go into this a bit more in next week’s Season 6 Predictions episode of ReThinking LOST, but that won’t be out until after the LOST in 8:15 analysis is released.

So, please be sure to check out that episode and let me know what you think about this and other omissions.
